CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela's government seized control of two sugar mills Tuesday and threatened to expropriate them, accusing managers of hoarding a basic good and violating the labor rights of employees.

Commerce Minister Richard Canan said authorities were taking over management of the Santa Elena and Santa Clara mills in the central state of Portuguesa for 90 days "to guarantee the operations of the mills, so our people don't go without sugar."

Canan said inspectors found several tons of sugar in warehouses that "should be in distribution centers." He suggested the mills failed to ship the sugar on schedule — a violation of laws aimed at ensuring timely distribution of basic foods as a means protecting consumers.

Government inspectors claim some businesses hoard sugar and other foods subject to government-price controls, waiting for President Hugo Chavez's administration to raise prices before selling the goods.

Note to Sean: If someone shuts down TV stations, newspapers and radio stations for airing opposing views they are a dictator. If someone seizes control of foreign companies for their own use they are a dictator. Chavez forces TV and radio stations to cover his speeches/lectures that last up to seven hours. He took over power plants and now sugar mills. NOT A DICTATOR? Sigh. Oh wait – does exercising might right to free speech on that subject now earn me a jail sentence Sean?

Glenn Beck "slaughters" Arianna Huffington.

Anyone want to bet that Arianna Huffington doesn't research anything and just parrots things written on her web site? Glenn Beck runs her over (not literally Arianna) during his show.

Question - if you have watched Arianna on various news programs over the years can you give me one example of an insightful comment made by her? On any of the shows. Just one comment from her that is grounded in reality, based on facts, and was useful to anyone watching that TV program. Just one.

Eric Holder hires DNC bloggers as propagandists and sock puppets. Their job is to post anonymous comments attacking anyone critical of Obama, Eric Holder or the DOJ.

Yes you read the story headline correctly. Barack Obama and Eric Holder hired DNC bloggers to troll the internet looking for stories at newspapers websites. Hans von Spakovsky of the NRO asks about the Department of Justice's propaganda machine

Those of you wondering how DOJ uses your tax dollars to enforce our nation's laws might be interested to learn that Eric Holder has apparently hired former Democratic campaign bloggers to work at the department in what appears to be a secret propaganda unit. According to a story at The Muffled Oar website, the bloggers are housed in the Office of Public Affairs (the press office). Their job is to place "anonymous comments, or comments under pseudonyms, at newspaper websites with stories critical of the Department of Justice, Holder and President Obama." One of the bloggers is former DNC and John Edwards staffer Tracy Russo, whose name was featured prominently on the department's introduction of its new website on October 1.

At the same time that DOJ was refusing to answer questions about its outrageous dismissal of the voter-intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party and apparently paying government employees to post anonymous or pseudonymous comments or comments under false names attacking critics of the administration, the department declared that it was launching its new website "to increase openness and transparency in government." In fact, Russo claims it is "just the first step towards creating the most open, accessible, and transparent Justice Department possible." If that is true, how can DOJ justify these anonymous/pseudonymous postings? The misrepresentation is clearly material or DOJ wouldn't go to such lengths to engage in it.

I doubt that the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) has received an ethics opinion from Justice's Professional Responsibility Advisory Office (PRAO) saying that it is acceptable for OPA employees to be harassing critics of the department through postings that deliberately hide their DOJ affiliation (a practice that is not very "open" or "transparent"). DOJ lawyers also ought to be aware of ABA Model Rule of Professional Conduct 8.4, which states that it is professional misconduct for a lawyer to engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation. If the report in The Muffled Oar is correct, tax dollars are being used directly for such dishonest, deceitful behavior.

No. That’s not scary or anything.

Glenn Beck’s Documentary on The Progressive Movement.

Very well done. A great review of history that far too many schools attempt to hide. In my own experience some college professors that teach the history of communism and socialism will openly speak of how they interrelate with the progressive movement. Others tend to run away from the topic.

Letters to the editor: Same letters, different writers and newspapers across the country. Who wrote them isn't as important as who selected them.

 

Who wants to dig through letters to the editor from papers across the country? Very few people but it seems that there is a problem so large that even casual observers noticed a trend.

It appears that letters to the editor that support Obama are appearing in newspapers from different writers but the letters are exact copies. Full story here for the evidence to date. Examples below.

Some people are pointing fingers at a group called Organizing for Obama. That group changed it's name to Organizing for America once Obama was elected. But then someone pointed to a trail that ends up at The Democratic Party itself on their website. Link here.

OK - but is that the story? I don't think so as newspapers receive tons of letters and emails. The editors then have to sift through them and find the letters that are the best or that they like the best etc. Given that fact how did the exact same letters end up being selected in newspapers across the country? Isn't that the bigger story?

One can imagine a town hall sign-waver enthusiastically forking over most of their pay to bill collectors after suffering a catastrophic injury, thinking, “Wow, the free market system is great.”

Meanwhile, Gloria Elle writes to the Baltimore Chronicle — on the same page as Mark Spivey and Ellie Light:

Fox News even beat ABC News the night of the Massachusetts special election. 6 times the viewers of MSNBC.

I guess this is why Dennis Kucinich had absolutley NO comeback when confronted by Bill O'Reilly recently. Other than of course to threaten to shut Fox News down.

Those numbers are beyond explanation by the propaganda spread by the far left in America. As explained by a former NY Times editor the viewers of Fox News are:

Fox's millions of viewers -- those little people in nowhere towns and backwater cities who don't read books or watch "Mad Men" -- are ridiculed and caricatured as dumb and dumber. They are the hollering, red-faced crowds in the rowdy protests at town hall meetings last August. They are the social and political throwbacks of the Tea Party movement. They are the unfashionable, middle-America, small-town folks who queue up for hours to get a glimpse of their action hero, Sarah Palin

Or at least that is what the NY Times crowd thinks of them.

Jon Stewart hits Keith Olbermann

Olbermann's rants regarding Scott Brown even drew the criticism of Jon Stewart. He hits Olbermann on the easy points then spends some time kissing up to him.

It's a funny clip. And that's what anyone should hope for and get from his show. On a larger note is this a Johnny Carson type shift in opinion regarding Keith Olbermann?

An astute commentator once noted that one of Carson's gifts is that he never went after anyone in his monologue until after the majority of the nation had written them off. Has Olbermann crossed that point?
